Im always on the lookout for new plants I can buy that make fruits or vegetables that I want to eat, especially fruit. While searching around online on my favorite websites, I came across Goji Berries. I had heard of them before, I knew that they were the ultimate super-food, and are FANTASTIC for you. In reading up on them I learned they are a VERY hardy Shrub that needs to be planted in a tall minimum 5 gallon pot, and can be kept in that pot for its entire life. It can be pruned to desired height/width. Or you can plant it in a very deep/large pot, or in the ground, and have it grow up to 12 feet tall and 4 feet wide. That much range, along with its resilience to temperatures down to Negative 40F and up to 100F, it was to fantastic of a plant to pass up.
So I bought a one year old plant from Burpee.com , a pot from Greenhousemegastore.com and when it arrived in the mail, I planted it. Because the plants are $15-30 to buy, I decided I wanted to try to grow some from seed. I searched the internet and couldnt find much good information or places to buy the seeds. I eventually posted on a Gardening forum asking where I could buy seeds from and I got recommended a website (only $4 for 20 seeds) so I bought it, however I learned why its not common to sell their seeds. The reason is you can buy dried (or regular) Goji Berries from most peoples local Asian Market (In my case my local "Central Market" store carried them in the Asian food isle) and let them soak in water in a bowl for 20 minutes, wring the berry out and the seeds that come out (30+ seeds) are plant-able.
Four of the Goji seedlings you see in the pictures below are from the seeds I purchased, and one is from a dried Goji Berry I bought from Central Market and soaked.
I have one more 1 year old Goji Berry plant coming from a different website that I bought from called Crimson Star Goji Berry (http://www.territorialseed.com/product/6863) at the end of this month.
